Water-Wise Landscaping
Learn the eight basic principles of water-wise landscaping and discover the importance of soil type, amendments, and mulch. Take control of your irrigation controller, solve the mysteries of drip irrigation, and select drought-tolerant plants for your garden!  The City of Napa offers an annual Water-Wise Landscaping Workshop Series for residents interested in saving on water bills while beautifying their properties.  For details, check your garbage bill inserts and The Reservoir newsletter in your water bill, or call 257-9309.  Be sure to visit www.cityofnapa.org/water for the latest smart irrigation and water-wise landscape rebate programs, including the “Cash For Grass” Turf Replacement Rebate offered by several area cities..




Water-Wise Home Surveys
The City of Napa offers this free service to help its residential and commercial water customers use water more efficiently and reduce their bills. A water conservation specialist will visit your site and:


  • Check for leaks and recommend repairs
  • Check toilet flush volumes
  • Check faucet and shower head flow rates
  • Evaluate all other water-using appliances and equipment
  • Provide free water-saving fixtures if needed and identify applicable rebates
  • Inspect your irrigation system and recommend improvements
  • Advise you on irrigation scheduling

Get a new energy-efficient appliance and recycle your outdated metal appliances  curbside  or for free at the Napa Recycling & Composting Facility!


High-efficiency residential clothes washers use as little as 18 gallons of water per load, saving more than 50% in water and energy costs.  Area cities are working together with PG&E to offer a combined water-energy rebate of $150 on certain high-efficiency models. Washer retailers have the application and eligible washer list. City of Napa businesses and apartment complexes can take advantage of a $400 Smart Rebate on high-efficiency commercial washers. Details available at www.cityofnapa.org/water.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) customers may qualify for a rebate by recycling old refrigerators, freezers and room air conditioners.  Refrigerators or freezers must be 10-30 cubic feet each, empty and working.  There is a limit of two units per household per year.  The service and pickup are free.  Qualifying customers will receive a rebate in 6-8 weeks for each unit.  Funding is limited.  For details or to schedule an appointment, call 1-800-299-7573 or visit www.pge.com/res/rebates.

City of Napa water customers and Napa Sanitation District sewer customers can take advantage of generous financial incentives to replace pre-1992 water-wasting toilets (3.5 or more gallons per flush) with today’s high-efficiency toilets, some of which use as little as 1 gallon per flush.  Visit www.cityofnapa.org/water or www.napasan.com for details on current programs, or call the City’s Water Conservation Representative at 257-9497.  Commercial customers may also obtain rebates for high-efficiency urinals and other water-saving equipment.
The City of American Canyon will reimburse up to $100 for every qualifying standard toiled removed and replaced with an ultra-low flush toilet.  Call the American Canyon Sustainability Coordinator at 647-5327 for more details, as well as info about free low-flow shower heads and sink aerators.
