LOCATION: Napa Recycling & Waste Services, 820 Levitin Way, American Canyon, CA 94503
REPORTS TO: General Manager / Operations Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
HOURS: Full time 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM
PAY RANGE: $110,000 – $130,000 yearly salary, depending on experience

Job Summary
Napa Recycling & Waste Services is seeking an experienced Equipment Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance operations for company vehicles, heavy equipment, processing equipment, shop operations, and associated facility infrastructure. This position is responsible for planning, scheduling, and directing maintenance shop personnel and ensuring that equipment is maintained in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner to support daily operations.
The Equipment Maintenance Manager will oversee preventive maintenance and repairs for rolling stock, heavy equipment, and processing systems used in recycling, transfer, composting, and materials handling operations. This position will also manage maintenance records, coordinate outside vendors, support budgeting and capital planning, and help ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including DOT and CHP BIT requirements where applicable.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee all maintenance operations for company vehicles, heavy equipment, processing equipment, shop equipment, yard infrastructure, and maintenance facilities
- Supervise and direct maintenance shop personnel and coordinate daily, weekly, and long-term maintenance priorities
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for fleet, heavy equipment, and plant equipment
- Schedule and oversee inspections, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs in a manner that minimizes downtime and supports operations
- Ensure maintenance personnel follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
- Maintain records related to inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, parts usage, and equipment history
- Administer periodic inspections and audits of vehicles, equipment, and facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance operations
- Ensure compliance with Federal DOT annual inspection requirements, CHP BIT inspection requirements, and other applicable fleet and equipment regulatory requirements
- Coordinate repairs and services performed by outside vendors and contractors when work is not completed in-house
- Authorize and arrange procurement of parts, tools, shop supplies, and equipment needed to support maintenance operations
- Monitor maintenance inventory and develop controls for critical parts, consumables, and shop materials
- Work with operations leadership to prioritize equipment availability and support facility production needs
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and investigate root causes of major failures, breakdowns, and damage incidents
- Evaluate equipment condition and make recommendations regarding major repairs, rebuilds, and replacement needs
- Participate in maintenance budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning for vehicles, equipment, tools, and facility improvements
- Identify safety hazards in the shop, yard, and operating environment and take appropriate corrective action
- Support training and development of maintenance personnel and promote safe work practices, accountability, and teamwork
- Drive a company vehicle as needed in the performance of job duties
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of related maintenance experience required
- Supervisory experience in a maintenance or equipment shop environment strongly preferred
- Experience with heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, and industrial or processing equipment required
- Experience in recycling, composting, solid waste, construction, or other industrial maintenance environments preferred
- Experience developing or managing a preventative maintenance program required
- Experience with maintenance tracking systems, work orders, and equipment history records preferred
- Experience and knowledge of Federal DOT inspection requirements, CHP BIT inspections, and maintenance compliance audits preferred
- Experience with inventory control and parts management preferred
- Welding, fabrication, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting experience helpful
- Ability to perform routine calculations and prepare reports, correspondence, and maintenance documentation
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Class A or B license preferred
Knowledge
- Knowledge of maintenance practices for heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and processing systems
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems and shop workflow management
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and hazards associated with maintenance shops and industrial facilities
- Knowledge of DOT, BIT, and other applicable inspection and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of budgeting, purchasing, and resource planning related to maintenance operations
- Understanding of shop safety procedures, lockout/tagout principles, and safe equipment operation
- Understand and comply with all NRWS safety procedures, policies, rules, and practices relevant to performing this role

- Positive, professional approach with the ability to build accountability and ownership within the maintenance team
Physical Requirements
- Work in a combination of shop, yard, and outdoor operating environments
- Walk on uneven ground and around active equipment and processing areas
- Climb on and off equipment and access elevated work areas safely
- Bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and perform hands-on inspections as needed
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds
- Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements, noise, dust, mud, and airborne particles
