Recycling Outreach Specialist, Napa Recycling & Waste Services

Summary:

Napa Recycling & Waste Services is the local recycling, compost, and garbage service provider for the City of Napa, California, and the operator of the award-winning Napa Recycling & Composting Facility.

Napa Recycling is hiring a SB 1383 Recycling Outreach Specialist to be responsible for training, auditing, supporting, and reporting the achievement of residential and commercial customers in the City of Napa. The Recycling Outreach Specialist will work closely with other Napa Recycling and City of Napa staff to contact, train, and educate customers, conduct route and facility audits, and perform other duties to reduce waste, support awareness, and maximize community participation and compliance in recycling and composting programs. The Specialist will support efforts and assist the contractor and community in meeting SB 1383 goals and other diversion mandates.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Recycling Specialist is responsible for the following day-to-day duties:

  • Assist in the education, training, implementation, and compliance with the mandatory organics law (SB 1383) and all services Napa Recycling offers
  • Coordinate implementation of contractual recycling and compost programs along with City of Napa staff and Napa Recycling Public Education Manager & other Outreach Specialists
  • Develop best practices (with City of Napa staff) to expand and enhance diversion efforts & SB 1383 compliance
  • Work with customers to develop comprehensive waste management and diversion best practices for their businesses and/or residential units
  • Coordinate and perform site visits and waste audits to develop and/or improve customer recycling and composting programs, follow up on customer contamination, recommend alternate equipment and/or services, and comply with all aspects of SB 1383
  • Conduct facility and route audits
  • Lead facility tours
  • Work in Napa Recycling’s Soft-Pak system and City of Napa’s Recyclist platform to track and report outreach
  • Assist in preparation, coordination, and review of diversion and other necessary reports
  • Help prepare informational and educational print, web, and social media content
  • Give presentations to various community groups on services offered by Napa Recycling and the City of Napa and the importance of recycling, composting and waste reduction
  • Serve on community involvement committees that focus on waste prevention and education
  • Assist in other public education and outreach tasks as necessary

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

The following knowledge and skills are required for this position:

  • Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree, preferably including coursework in environmental studies, policy, or other related fields
  • Recycling, composting and solid waste industry knowledge desired
  • 2-3 years of recycling/solid waste or other similar business experience
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other necessary computer platforms
  • Detail oriented, problem solver with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure in a timely manner
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable leading trainings and speaking in front of a group
  • Professional appearance and manner
  • Eagerness to expand knowledge through exposure to a wide variety of company functions
  • Knowledge of Spanish a plus

Working Conditions & Compensation:

Ability to accomplish tasks between field and office work during an 8-hour workday. Able to sit for eight (8) hours a day with breaks.  Able to work at least six (6) hours at a computer. Able to attend evening and weekend meetings and events, which might require standing for over a four (4) hour period. Able to conduct sorting audits of trash, compost, and recycling containers.  Position is located at a recycling and composting facility that processes recyclables and organics and generates outside noise, odor and air borne particles.

Full time, exempt, $33-35/hr. with full benefits, including health, dental, vision and life insurance, 401(k) retirement plan with company matching, vacation and PTO, company wellness program.

Customer Service Representative, Napa Recycling & Waste Services

Summary:

Napa Recycling is hiring a Customer Service Representative that will ensure all customers receive consistent, high-quality service established by the policies and procedures of the Customer Service Center. Provides support and coverage to Operations, Accounts Receivable in both our Napa and American Canyon locations as well as the City of Napa Scale House. Shifts and office sites vary with rotating desks and potential for overtime, weekend, and holiday work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to, the following:
➢ Possess fundamental knowledge regarding all dimensions of residential, commercial, and industrial company services provided. Acquire knowledge of customer related databases.
➢ Be primary contact to respond and resolve customer inquiries, complaints, and order requests in a timely, accurate and professional manner.
➢ Perform follow-up calls regarding customer inquiries, complaints and orders to assure follow-through, completion and satisfaction.
➢ Educate current and prospective customers about all company services provided.
➢ Set-up and maintain accurate and timely customer profile records for all residential and commercial customer interactions.
➢ Review daily CSR work in accounts via reports and spreadsheets for trackable data ensuring corrections are made prior to any errors effecting the customer billing or account.
➢ Meet daily accuracy goals, handling a high inbound volume of 60-120 calls per day, on a consistent basis and multiple daily tasks.
➢ Provide service to front counter walk-in customers as needed; process payments and all service requests within the CSC standards; process all daily A/R spreadsheets and paperwork.
➢ Project a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, positive behavior that encourages customer confidence and reflects the professional image desired by NRWS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
➢ Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, telephone and follow-up skills
➢ Demonstrated and strong customer service skills with excellent judgment and problem resolution skills and ability.
➢ Ability to turn an irate customer into a happy one.
➢ Excellent verbal communications skills.
➢ Basic computer knowledge
➢ Minimum of one year Call Center experience required
➢ Bilingual skills helpful
➢ Successfully pass drug test

WORK EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
➢ High School diploma
➢ One year experience in related field

This position works primarily in a climate-controlled office type environment. Position is located between our Napa Payment Center and American Canyon composting facility that processes recyclables and organics and generates outside noise, odor and air borne particles.
