WHO OWNS THE RECYCLABLES?
RECYCLABLES from your home or business belong to you until you place them in your Napa Recycling & Waste Services (NRWS) blue cart for collection. Once the cart is at the curb, only you or NRWS should remove those materials.
WHY DOES THEFT MATTER?
RECYCLABLES such as aluminum, glass, paper and cardboard have value.
THEFT FROM BLUE CARTS and commercial recycling containers reduces recycling revenue and can leave behind litter or a mess.
REVENUE from recyclable materials is considered when garbage collection rates are set. When valuable material is stolen, that revenue is lost and could result in a 15-25% rate increase.
SEE RECYCLABLES BEING TAKEN?
PLEASE REPORT IT.
WHAT YOU CAN DO – Do not confront anyone. If you observe recyclables being removed from an NRWS container, report the incident. If it is safe to do so, note the vehicle description, license plate number, location and time, or take a photo. Every detail can help.
