FOOD RESCUE & DONATIONS
Find out how to reduce 11 billion pounds of food waste in California.

Rescuing and donating food that would otherwise go to waste is one important way we can combat food waste. Californians throw out over 11 billion pounds of food waste every year, and Napa ranks 45th for food insecurity out of California’s 58 counties!

Local Organizations
Napa County has a detailed page with local food recovery resources.
Donating unsold, surplus food is easy with ChowMatch, the Feeding it Forward web application tool.
For other ways to donate food to reduce food waste, a complete listing of local food resources is available on the Feeding it Forward website (also available in Spanish).
Napa Valley CanDo has partnered with the Napa Valley Food Bank for the Napa Food Project, which coordinates “green bag” pickups. To participate in the Napa Food Project as a food donor or neighborhood coordinator, simply sign-up on CanDo’s website.
The following local organizations accept both prepared and canned food. Please no outdated canned goods, open containers, homemade or perishable foods for drop-off locations. You must call ahead to make arrangements for prepared and/or perishable food donations. You can also see this comprensive list of Napa County food distribution locations.
The Good Samaritan Act (Public Law 104-210) protects you from liability when donating to nonprofit organizations.
