Razor Blades Alternative ways to recycle Special Instructions Razor blades can go in sharps containers and disposed of with medical sharps. Never dispose of medical sharps in the landfill or recycling cart– they must be taken to special sharps locations in sharps containers. Non-medical razor blades (like disposable shaving razors) are allowed in the landfill cart, but please handle them safely and tape them or put them in a sealed container if necessary. Large amounts of metal, non-medical blades can be recycled as scrap metal – they would need to be consolidated in a metal can or other container w/ lid and dropped off at the facility or picked up by appointment on the Recycle More route. Store and Dispose of Blades With Care Whether the razor blade is a shaving razor, safety razor, hobby knife or utility knife, blades must be stored and disposed of with care. Wrap in tape, paper or place in a sharps container and dispose of in the garbage or at a sharps collection location. Dispose of Handles Separately Save handles for reuse. If handles must be disposed of, metal handles can be disposed of as scrap metal. Plastic handles should be put in the garbage.
